SEMPRE LIBERA: CALLAS Lyrics Translated - Video

"Sempre libera" ( Always free) is perhaps the most beautiful and famous Italian song of all time, here sung by Maria Callas,
callas traviata
who was regarded by audiences and critics the best performer of classical music ever.
For a song published in 1896, 'Sempre libera' is very timely, if we listen to today this wonderful 'air', not bored, Callas manages to amaze us, even though everyone knows this fantastic melody of Giuseppe Verdi.

Performed in theaters, movies, commercials, this song, 116 years old, is simply a masterpiece, a masterpièce that will be sung 100 years, perhaps by a young soprano, and will always be exciting.

The melody, combined with the text that is written in Italian, but an Italian poetry, which the Italians understand little, and because it is in poetic form, and because it is sung, this song make something unique, sweet and sparkling, like a Italian sparkling wine ...
This 'air' is taken from the opera 'La Traviata' here you can hear and see in full, with subtitles, to better understand what the text says ....

  • Lyrics translated: Sempre libera,  'aria' from opera 'La traviata':

Must I always be free
frolic with joy to joy,
I want my life to the flow
the paths of pleasure.
Born on the day or the day perish
always happy in the meeting places,
to ever new delight
My thought must fly

love beat
the entire universe,
mysterious, aloof,
cross and delight of my heart.

Oh! Love!

repeats ....
  • Testo Sempre Libera:
Follie! Follie! Delirio vano è questo!
Povera donna, sola, abbandonata
In questo popoloso deserto
Che appellano Parigi,
Che spero or più?
Che far degg’io?
Di voluttà ne’ vortici perir!

Sempre libera degg’io
Folleggiare di gioia in gioia,
Vo’ che scorra il viver mio
Pei sentieri del piacer.
Nasca il giorno, o il giorno muoia,
Sempre lieta ne’ ritrovi,
A diletti sempre nuovi
Dee volare il mio pensier.
